Conditions We Address Through Nutrition Therapy
Transform your health through nutrition therapy that actually fits your life. Meet our team of compassionate experts ready to guide you toward lasting change, addressing these conditions and more:
- Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes: Elevated blood sugar can be managed with positive nutritional habits. Our dietitian services in Austin focus on carbohydrate distribution, meal timing, fiber optimization, and sustainable eating patterns that stabilize glucose levels.
- Cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol: Nutrition plays a critical role in the prevention and management of heart disease. We design heart-healthy meal patterns that can lower LDL cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, and support vascular health without requiring you to give up flavor or satisfaction.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: Living with IBS, GERD, or celiac disease means navigating constant discomfort and dietary confusion. Our functional Registered Dietitian Nutritionist team uses elimination protocols, low-FODMAP strategies, and anti-inflammatory approaches to identify your specific triggers and encourage digestive wellness.
- Eating disorders and disordered eating: Recovery from anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, or orthorexia requires specialized support from professionals who understand the complexity of these conditions. Our holistic Registered Dietitian Nutritionists in Austin help you rebuild trust with food, honor hunger cues, and develop eating patterns that support both physical and mental health.
- PCOS and hormonal imbalances: Polycystic ovary syndrome affects one in 10 women and often comes with insulin resistance, irregular cycles, and difficulty managing weight. Our women’s health specialists address the metabolic components of PCOS through strategic meal composition, anti-inflammatory foods, and lifestyle modifications that improve hormonal balance and fertility outcomes.
- Weight concerns and metabolic health: Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists support weight loss through sustainable behavior change over quick fixes. We focus on building habits that serve your long-term goals and enhance your Health at Every Size® (HAES).
- Sports performance and athletic fueling: The city’s active community includes runners training for marathons, cyclists tackling hill country routes, and athletes preparing for competition. Our sports nutrition services optimize your performance safely, teaching proper nutrition timing, hydration strategies, and recovery protocols.
- Cancer treatment and recovery: Oncology nutrition therapy addresses the unique challenges of maintaining adequate nutrition during chemotherapy, radiation, and recovery. We help manage treatment side effects, prevent malnutrition, and support your body’s healing processes through individualized meal planning.
What to Expect From Our Registered Dietitians
Your first appointment lasts 55 to 85 minutes and includes a comprehensive review of your medical history, current eating patterns, medications, lab values, lifestyle factors, and specific goals. Rather than handing you a generic meal plan, your dietitian will collaborate with you to identify realistic changes that fit your preferences, schedule, and budget. We consider your cultural food traditions, cooking skills, household dynamics, and any barriers you’ve faced in the past.
Follow-up sessions typically occur every two to four weeks initially, then less frequently as you gain confidence and see results. These 55-minute check-ins allow us to track your progress, troubleshoot challenges, adjust strategies, and celebrate wins. Between appointments, many clients benefit from our group nutrition classes, which provide community support and practical cooking demonstrations.
For individuals who prefer virtual care or have scheduling constraints, we offer telehealth appointments that provide the same quality guidance from the comfort of your home. Whether in-person or online, you’ll receive personalized attention from a licensed professional committed to your success.
Insurance Coverage for Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition counseling can be covered by most insurance carriers as a preventive health service, but it can vary by plan and diagnosis. We work with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and many others. Our administrative team verifies your benefits ahead of time, so you’ll know your coverage details before your first session.
For those without insurance coverage or with high deductibles, we offer transparent self-pay rates. Many clients find that investing in nutrition therapy reduces their overall healthcare costs by decreasing medication needs, preventing complications, and avoiding more expensive interventions down the road.

FAQs About Nutrition Counseling in Austin
Good news! Many insurance plans cover nutrition counseling as a preventative or medical service, so you may be responsible for $0 or very little out of pocket. We’re in-network with most major providers, and every plan is different, so we encourage you to verify your insurance benefits to understand your coverage.
We believe nutrition counseling should be practical, personalized, and fun! We provide evidence-based care while teaching you how to use food as medicine—without extreme diets or unrealistic restrictions. Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are trained in the philosophies of intuitive eating, Health at Every Size, and weight-inclusive care. This means we meet you where you are and help you develop lasting strategies that work for your unique needs.
All of our dietitians are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs), meaning that they hold national certification, can provide medical nutrition therapy, and are experts in navigating complex medical conditions and nutrition needs. Many of our team members also hold specialized credentials in areas like diabetes care or oncology. Our full team is trained in intuitive eating philosophies and weight-inclusive care.
You don’t need a referral from your PCP or any other medical professional to receive nutrition counseling. While some insurance plans (specifically HMOs) might require a referral for coverage, you don’t need one for the appointment itself.
Your first appointment typically lasts 55-85 minutes and gives us a chance to get to know you and your unique needs. You’ll discuss your medical history, current meal patterns, and any specific challenges. Your dietitian will help educate you and set specific, personalized goals.
If you’re local to one of our offices in Texas or Illinois, you can do either! You’re welcome to do a mix of telehealth and in-person sessions to keep things convenient for your personal schedule.
It varies! Your dietitian will provide recommendations and work with you to establish personalized goals, but the decision is ultimately up to you and what works best for your schedule.
