Why Choose Doherty Nutrition?
While many nutrition practices operate exclusively online, Doherty Nutrition offers an actual brick-and-mortar location where you can meet face-to-face with your dietitian. Our office provides a private, comfortable setting just minutes from Southlake Town Square and easily accessible from Colleyville, Grapevine, Keller, Roanoke, Trophy Club, and Westlake.
Since opening in 2019, Doherty Nutrition has grown to become one of the largest private nutrition practices in Texas. This expansion reflects our commitment to making quality nutrition counseling affordable and effective for every client. Our team accepts most major insurance plans to help make transformative nutrition appointments more accessible. We’ve built our reputation on delivering personalized, judgment-free care that meets clients where they are and empowers them with practical strategies they can implement immediately.
In addition to in-person counseling, we offer telehealth appointments across multiple states, group nutrition classes, dietitian-designed meal plans, and our new Meals-to-Go service featuring FSA- and HSA-eligible prepared meals delivered to your door. This comprehensive range of services ensures you have the support and resources needed to succeed.
Insurance Coverage for Nutrition Counseling
Most major medical insurance providers consider nutrition counseling a preventive service, which means your visits may be fully covered or subject only to a standard copay. We’re in-network with many insurance companies serving our area, and our team verifies benefits before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect.

FAQs About Nutrition Counseling in Southlake
Good news! Many insurance plans cover nutrition counseling as a preventative or medical service, so you may be responsible for $0 or very little out of pocket. We’re in-network with most major providers, and every plan is different, so we encourage you to verify your insurance benefits to understand your coverage.
We believe nutrition counseling should be practical, personalized, and fun! We provide evidence-based care while teaching you how to use food as medicine—without extreme diets or unrealistic restrictions. Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are trained in the philosophies of intuitive eating, Health at Every Size, and weight-inclusive care. This means we meet you where you are and help you develop lasting strategies that work for your unique needs.
All of our dietitians are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs), meaning that they hold national certification, can provide medical nutrition therapy, and are experts in navigating complex medical conditions and nutrition needs. Many of our team members also hold specialized credentials in areas like diabetes care or oncology. Our full team is trained in intuitive eating philosophies and weight-inclusive care.
You don’t need a referral from your PCP or any other medical professional to receive nutrition counseling. While some insurance plans (specifically HMOs) might require a referral for coverage, you don’t need one for the appointment itself.
Your first appointment typically lasts 55-85 minutes and gives us a chance to get to know you and your unique needs. You’ll discuss your medical history, current meal patterns, and any specific challenges. Your dietitian will help educate you and set specific, personalized goals.
If you’re local to one of our offices in Texas or Illinois, you can do either! You’re welcome to do a mix of telehealth and in-person sessions to keep things convenient for your personal schedule.
It varies! Your dietitian will provide recommendations and work with you to establish personalized goals, but the decision is ultimately up to you and what works best for your schedule.
