Are you hanging on to a pair of jeans that no longer fit? Are you uncomfortable in your current clothes? Does shopping and trying on clothes seem like an endless struggle? Buying new clothes can be a daunting task, but Doherty Nutrition’s Registered Dietitians have some tips to help you!

Find Clothing That Can Change with You

If your body is changing, look for clothing that can cover a range of sizes. Stretch fabrics, wrap skirts, and flowy dresses and pants are great options for those experiencing or anticipating a shift in size. For spring and summer, linen fabrics are a great choice! Let Your Clothes (and Yourself) Breathe

Breathable fabrics can be much more comfortable and can encourage more day-to-day physical activity! Find Your Perfect Fit Inspo

Seeking out and “following” people on social media with your body type can give you tons of new outfit ideas that are likely to fit and look good on you! Searching for “mid size” or “plus size” accounts is a good place to start if you’re looking for inspiration. Instagram accounts @caralynmirand, @ashley_dorough, @owinpierson, @fatchuckbass and @readytostare are some favorites, but doing your own searching can help you find the perfect size and style match for you!

Picture Yourself

Certain online retailers have a variety of models so that you can see what the clothing looks like on different body types. This can be a huge stress reliever because you’ll be able to picture what it may look like on you! Old Navy has lots of pieces (especially pants/jeans) with different sized models pictured. Girlfriend collective is a colorful and fun activewear company that has models of different sizes and shapes as well.

Ditch the Despair

Put away or donate clothing that no longer fits. Like Marie Kondo says, if it doesn’t “spark joy”, get rid of it! Give the “good stuff” to someone you know will appreciate it or take it to a resale shop and get some money or store credit for those items. If you have something with sentimental value that you’d like to save, store it away in a safe place.
