Recovery from an eating disorder or disordered eating is an incredibly challenging journey, but you don’t have to face it alone. At Doherty Nutrition, we’re incredibly excited about an upcoming addition to our services that will provide an invaluable source of support and accountability for you: Meal Support Groups.

To make these groups the best they can be, we want to hear from YOU! Your feedback and interest will help us ensure that you can take advantage of these groups as much as possible to further your recovery journey. To do so, follow this link here to share your thoughts!

Want to learn more about what a Meal Support Group is and why it might be a good fit for you? Keep reading as we explore the value these groups can bring in an often scary and overwhelming time in your recovery.

What Exactly Is a Meal Support Group?

A Meal Support Group is a gathering of peers led by one of our Registered Dietitians (RDs), coming together (in a virtual setting) to support and encourage each other during mealtime. Join us from your lunch break at the office or from your kitchen table at home!

Anyone, at any point in your recovery from an eating disorder or disordered eating, is welcome. All you need to bring is yourself and your meal; we’ll provide the conversation and skills needed to help you through!

Weight-Inclusive & Non-Diet Approach

We provide support from a weight-inclusive, non-diet lens, meaning everyone is welcome! Our focus always remains on tending to your overall well-being, rather than a number on the scale. This guidance will help foster a healthier relationship with both food and your body.

Source of Accountability

Recovery is a significant challenge, especially when you may be facing some challenges on your own. Meal Support Groups provide an additional space to have more accountability to continue combatting disordered thoughts and urges.

Social Connection

Working towards recovery can often be an isolating journey, but it doesn’t have to be! We offer a welcoming space for you to connect with peers both in your own neighborhood and all over the country. You’ll find strength in knowing you’re not alone in this journey.

Expert Guidance

Our team at Doherty Nutrition is the best of the best! Our Meal Support Group will be led by one of our own RDs who specializes in eating disorders and disordered eating. You’ll receive expert and confidential support and accountability during each of our groups.

Conclusion

As dietitians, we recognize that the thought of eating with others can be daunting, especially in the early stages of recovery. Oftentimes, our clients find that eating with other people is incredibly helpful and empowering, even if it is a bit scary at first.

To help us launch these groups as another resource for you, we invite you to take a quick 2-minute survey HERE. We appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas as we work towards creating a supportive environment that truly meets your needs.
