Nutrition Counseling for General Health & Wellness

In the United States, most of the population is not meeting the recommended intake of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and whole grains. For most individuals, meeting these dietary needs can be difficult when considering budget, time, and convenience. In 2019, only 10% of adults ate enough fruits and vegetables, while 37% of Americans chose fast food.

Our RDs have a simple goal – to help you feel empowered and in control of your health. You deserve the best, and we will help you with education, support, and encouragement along the way.

How Can A Dietitian Help My Health?

Liver diseases is a term that refers to damage of the liver including infection, autoimmune dysfunction, cancer, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), alcoholic fatty liver disease (ALD), chronic liver disease, and cirrhosis. Nearly 4.5 million adults in the United States have been diagnosed with liver disease and an estimation of millions more Americans are left undiagnosed.

For optimal liver health, RDs can customize eating patterns that align with your lifestyle and specific diagnosis. In some cases, managing sugar, fluid, and fat intake could be needed.

The kidneys’ main function is to filter the blood, removing waste, and excess fluid. They filter approximately 200 quarts of fluid per day and regulate vitamin and mineral levels in the body. When the kidneys are not functioning properly, it can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, dry skin, issues sleeping, swelling in ankles and feet, urge to urinate, or discolored urine. Conditions that increase the risk of damage to the kidneys are uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension.

To improve your kidney functioning, RDs may adjust the intake of foods with sodium, potassium, phosphorus, fluids, and protein depending on your individual disease or condition. This can be incorporated through portion adjustments, alternative ingredients, and increased palatability with recommendations from your dietitian.

Heart disease refers to a group of cardiovascular conditions including coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and arrhythmia. Heart disease affects nearly half of the population, making it the leading cause of death in the United States. Many factors affect the risk associated with developing a heart condition such as age, sex, genetics, race, lifestyle, and other medical conditions.

Dietitians can assist you with increasing your intake of healthy fats, adding fiber, enhancing meals with salt-free seasonings, and incorporating exercise into your intake. Through nutritional counseling, we can help you in making sustainable heart-healthy changes.

There are a multitude of factors that can impact our weight such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, culture, family history, medication, and more. Concerns of weight gain, loss, or maintenance may be frustrating when not given the proper knowledge and support. Research shows that 68% of Americans have dieted during their life with a 90% failure rate, leading to 2/3 of dieters regaining more weight than they lost.

Dietitians can help you break the endless cycle of chronic dieting with the use of nutrition education and incorporating mindful & Intuitive Eating principles to help you finally achieve sustainable, lifelong changes and feel in control of your own health!
